Settle Hydro, Weir, Salmon Ladder and Waterwheel
Multi-award-winning Settle Hydro uses an Archimedean screw to generate ‘green’ electricity from the River Ribble as it flows over the adjacent weir.
The hydro scheme was built into the mill race which for hundreds of years fed water to the water wheel which powered the machinery at Bridge End Mill.
You can also observe the fish pass which allows migrating salmon and sea trout to pass the weir on their way to spawning beds further up the river.
